The Commission on Higher Education – Cordillera Administrative Region (CHED-CAR), through its UniFAST Unit, participated in the Career Guidance and Counseling Program of Binga National High School in Itogon, Benguet, entitled “G.A.B.A.Y.” (Guidance and Advocacy for Building Aspirations of Youth) on February 20, 2026. A total of 140 learners from Grades 10 to 12 joined the program, which aimed to prepare students for their transition to higher education and future career paths.

Dr. Bernadette C. Pal-ec, Education Supervisor II and Head of the UniFAST Unit, guided students on higher education opportunities and available financial support. She shared detailed information on government-funded scholarships and assistance programs under the Commission on Higher Education and the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST), explaining eligibility criteria, application procedures, and the benefits learners can access to pursue tertiary education.

The session likewise provided an opportunity to present recent regional developments, as Dr. Pal-ec shared key information on House Bill No. 6981, a proposed measure seeking the establishment of the Cordillera Autonomous Region. The bill was formally filed in the House of Representatives earlier this year, contributing to ongoing efforts to advance regional autonomy and sustainable development in the Cordillera. This highlights CHED-CAR’s commitment not only to educational advancement but also to fostering civic awareness and a strong regional identity.

The activity was also attended by representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry – Cordillera Administrative Region (DTI-CAR), Public Employment Service Office – Benguet (PESO Benguet), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority – Cordillera Administrative Region (TESDA-CAR), and Benguet State University (BSU), highlighting the collaborative effort of government agencies and educational institutions in guiding students toward informed academic and career decisions.

The session provided learners with valuable insights to help them select appropriate Senior High School tracks and plan for post-graduation pathways, whether in higher education, entrepreneurship, or employment. Through initiatives like these, CHED-CAR continues to ensure that learners have access to quality higher education and that financial assistance programs reach those who need them most.

This activity is part of Project ACCESS (Acquainting In-Coming College Entrants on Scholarship and Grants-in-Aid System), a CHED-CAR initiative that informs students about scholarship opportunities and other support mechanisms as they prepare for college.
