As part of its efforts to guide students in making informed educational and career choices, the Commission on Higher Education – Cordillera Administrative Region (CHED-CAR) participated in the Career Guidance and Orientation Program of Datakan Integrated School in Kapangan, Benguet, on February 13, 2026. The program, themed “Connecting Talent with Opportunity,” aimed to help learners make informed and responsible decisions about their future career paths, particularly in selecting the Senior High School track and planning for their post-graduation options, whether in higher education, entrepreneurship, or employment.
Approximately 50 participants, including Grades 10 to 12 learners and their parents or guardians, attended the activity aimed at preparing students for their transition to higher education.
Ms. Riham B. Abangley, an alumna of the school and now a Jail Officer of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), served as the motivational speaker during the program, inspiring learners through her personal and professional journey.
Representatives from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Cordillera Career Development Center (CCDC), and King’s College of the Philippines (KCP) also participated in the activity to guide students in their career pathways.
Dr. Bernadette C. Pal-ec, Education Supervisor II and UniFAST Unit Head, led the CHED-CAR team in presenting the various scholarships and financial assistance programs offered by the Commission on Higher Education and Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST). The session provided learners with essential information on available support mechanisms as they pursue tertiary education.
Dr. Pal-ec also guided Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) learners in exploring potential career paths and aligned degree programs. In addition, she highlighted CHED-accredited programs offered by higher education institutions in the Baguio–Benguet area, helping students make informed academic choices.
The visit forms part of CHED-CAR’s ongoing implementation of Project ACCESS (Acquainting In-Coming College Entrants on Scholarship and Grants-in-Aid System), an initiative designed to expand awareness of educational opportunities and promote equitable access to quality higher education.
