Widening reach to ensure inclusivity of quality tertiary education in the Cordillera, the Commission on Higher Education – CAR joined the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development – Benguet Province during the conduct of its Forum on RA 11861 or the Expanded Solo Parent Welfare Act last June 29, 2023, at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Hall, Capitol, Poblacion, La Trinidad, Benguet. The forum intends to disseminate the different programs and opportunities rendered by the government to solo parents.

Attendees were solo parents from the 13 municipalities of Benguet wherein they were properly informed of the qualifications and requirements to avail of the different financial assistance programs. The information presented will guide them in availing of their educational benefits stated in Section 16 of the Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations of RA 11861.

The CHED-CAR team led by Ms. Christine Soriano, Education Supervisor II and StuFAPS Coordinator, presented the different scholarship programs under the Commission, while Ms, Jezeny O. Laoyan, the Lead Regional Coordinator of the UniFAST unit discussed the different programs under RA 10931 or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act. The orientation is a part of Project ACCESS (Acquainting In-Coming College Entrants on Scholarships and Grants-in-aid System), an IEC campaign program of CHED-CAR initiated by Regional Director Demetrio P. Anduyan Jr., which aims to orient potential undergraduate enrollees to the different opportunities and financial assistance programs they can avail to pursue higher education.

The PSWD – Benguet expressed their appreciation on the efforts of the commission and conveyed its willingness for future partnerships to support in its quest for a wider dissemination of the different programs of CHED and UniFAST in the region.
